The Eurovision song contest has been running annually since 1950 and is watched all over the globe. This year it is being hosted in Düsseldorf, Germany, following Germany’s win in the 2010 Contest with Lena Meyer-Landrut’s song “Satellite”. One of the semi-finals took place last night and another will take place on the 12th May leading up to the final which will be aired live on Saturday 14th May.

The first semi final took place last night at 9pm which included 18 of the finalists who were in competition to get a place in the Final. 10 acts have gone forward to the Final of the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest due to a 50/50 decision of televoting and national expert juries, the results of which are added up for each respective country. After the votes were counted the results were announced in a random order.

This year Blue are representing the United Kingdom with their new single ‘I Can’. The band is made up of members  Simon Webbe, Lee Ryan, Duncan James and Antony Costa. They originally formed in 2001 but split in 2005 and made a comeback with a tour in 2009. Go Blue! Fingers crossed for a win for the UK this year.
